Help Guide

HTML

This page is intended as a rough guide to help the beginner customize their own official page. For a guide to HTML in brief see  a quick guide, but for a more complete picture there are many on line guides including:

HTML can be avoided completely by using the web page editor in Netscape 4. This is not the default but can be run by typing: netscape4& on the maths network.

Using the example:

The simplest way to create you own official page is to use the example. To customize this page using Netscape 4:

If you prefer to edit the raw HTML in your favorite text editor the example file can be found at: /usr/local/WWW/pages/stats/people/perexample.html.

Course files:

Save all files in directory (/usr/local/WWW/pages/stats/courses/coursename). It is helpful if you make the file read/writable for the whole group (instead of just you, as in all your personal files). This is so that if you stop teaching a course the files can be easily inherited. To to this type:

chmod 664 file.name

Other files:

Please note that a directory (/usr/local/WWW/pages/stats/people/yourintials) has been provided for you to keep all you personal  web related files. This includes postscript files of publications etc. By all means use this space as you wish but do not save any person details elsewhere.
