ANALYSIS

In this module, we study "limits of infinite processes", and the mathematical structures that underlie calculus. The main topics we shall cover are:

Lectures

Books: The book recommended for Core A, namely Salas, Hille & Etgen, covers most of the material in this course. Any standard American college text (ie any large book with "Calculus" or 'Analysis' in the title) will also contain most of what we do.

Web: See the brief history in Wikipedia, and their article about John Wallis (a contemporary of Newton, who among other things is credited with introducing the symbol for infinity). Explore the Calculus and Analysis categories at GoogleMath and YahooMath. You might find these Aberdeen lecture notes useful, or these from the US. Look at this Interactive Real Analysis page.

Work will be set on Thursday each week, to be handed in to your tutor at a time agreed with them. The tutor will mark your work and return it at a tutorial. Below you can find a list of what questions are set for each week of term.
