Numerical aspects of diffraction by a 2D elastic wedge

Abstract

The canonical problem of diffraction by a 2D elastic wedge may be reduced using the Sommerfeld-Malyuzhinets-Budaev technique to two singular integral equations on a real line. Each equation contains two unknowns, a function and a constant.

I will discuss the unusual properties of these equations, the method of their solution as developed at SBU and compare the numerical results obtained by the SBU team, Budaev and Bogy (Berkely), Gautesen (Iowa State Universityy) and Fujii (Kansai University). I will indicate the limits of applicability of the SBU technique.
