Computational methods for wave propagation in direct scattering

Francisco-Javier Sayas (Zaragoza. Spain)

Overlapping of finite and boundary element methods for transmission problems in scattering of thermal waves

Abstract

We deal with transmission problems for two and three dimensional Helmholtz equations on bounded domains. The aim of this work is to show how to profit from standard boundary element discretizations for exterior transmission problems, coupled with finite element discretizations of the bounded domain that contains the obstacles but eliminating these ones from the interior grid. Some applications in a model of scattering of thermal waves will be discussed.
