Full details will follow (including times of poster sessions), but here is a very rough outline. The morning sessions will run from about 09:00 to 13:00 (including a break for tea/coffee), and the afternoon sessions will probably run from about 15:30 to 18:00 (including a tea/coffee break).

Excursions:

  • Durham Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We have arranged a guided tour of the Cathedral for the afternoon of Thursday 18 (leaving Grey College after lunch).

  • On Sunday 21 there will be an (optional) day-long coach trip to the Roman Hadrian's wall. The coach will first call at Steel Rigg, from where those who want can hike along the wall to Housesteads. This should be a relatively easy walk, but it does involve a considerable amount of ascent/descent. The weather in N England can be cold and wet, even in July, and noone should attempt the walk without hiking boots/shoes and warm and waterproof clothing. More information on walking along the wall from Steel Rigg can be found here (the description is of a circular walk from Steel Rigg, and our route is part of the return trip).

    The coach will take everyone else to Housesteads fort, where there will be an opportunity to visit the museum. It will return to Durham via Hexham.
