The aim of the study groups is to allow industrial partners to present one of their problems and ask a group of mathematicians, statisticians, and probabilists to work on these problems for a week.
While full solutions are not always found in such a short time, the study group always makes very good progress towards finding a solution, often leading to further collaborations between the parties involved.
The study group is an ideal forum in which to have a brain-storming session involving mathematicians with wide ranges of expertise and who can cast fresh eyes on problems completely new to them.
The outcome of the study group is delivered through a presentation on the last day, followed by a written report for each problem a few weeks after the event.
