The subjects within the University are divided up into three groups from the point of view of Natural Sciences:
- Departments within the Faculty of Science: Group 1;
- Departments without the Faculty of Science which contribute to a Joint Honours degree within Natural Sciences: Group 2;
- Departments which do not contribute to a Joint Honours degree: Group 3

Group 1 (subjects from Departments within the Faculty of Science)
Group 2 (subjects which contribute to a Joint Honours degree within Natural Sciences and not from Departments within the Faculty of Science)
Group 3 (subjects which do not contribute to a Joint Honours degree within Natural Sciences)
- Sport
- Education
- Centre for Language Studies - students will only be allowed to do at most one module per year for the first two years of their degree.
