European Study Group with Industry

11 to 15 April 2016        Department of Mathematical Sciences

Concept

The aim of the study groups is to allow industrial partners to present one of their problems and ask a group of mathematicians, statisticians, and probabilists to work on these problems for a week.

While full solutions are not always found in such a short time, the study group always makes very good progress towards finding a solution, often leading to further collaborations between the parties involved.

The study group is an ideal forum in which to have a brain-storming session involving mathematicians with wide ranges of expertise and who can cast fresh eyes on problems completely new to them.

The outcome of the study group is delivered through a presentation on the last day, followed by a written report for each problem a few weeks after the event.

Venue

The working group will take place at Durham University in the new Palatine Centre building.

Participants will be lodged in en-suite rooms in Collingwood College where breakfast and evening meals will also be provided.
